Difference between could, would Difference between could, would and should

There is a big difference between could,would and should. The word Could is used to refer to ability; possibilities in the future; to make polite requests.The word Would is to talk about unreal or unlikely situations; to refer to future action; to make polite requests. The word Should is used to give advice or to denote an ideal situation.

The following examples will make the usage clear.

Could Would Should
I could not swim when I was 11 years old. (used could to talk about ability)

 

If I were a bowler, I would never bowl a wide ball. (used would to refer to unlikely situation)

 

You should never bowl a wide ball. (used should to talk about ideal situation)
If we save money, we could buy a big bungalow in near future. (used could to talk about future possibility) Would you mind leaving us along? (used would to make polite request) You should never talk to him again. (used should to advise)
Could you get me a drink? (used could to make polite request) I would stay here for the rest of my life, should my dad permit me. (used would to refer to unlikely situation) I would stay here for the rest of my life, should my dad permit me.(used should to talk about ideal situation)
