Difference between Stationery and Stationary
There is a huge difference between stationery and stationary.
The word Stationery is a noun which means-
- a writing paper
- writing materials- such as pens, pencils, notebooks, paper, ink, envelope, etc. (things primarily required on an office desk)
We supply stationery to government offices.
The word Stationary is an adjective which means
-not moving; standstill
-something not meant to move
-The price of rice has been stationary for a long time now . (There is no change in prices of rice.)
-I kept honking but he remained stationary. (he did not move at all)
There are two specialized meanings of stationary, related to stability or lack of movement:
- Not changing in quantity or condition: Patient’s condition is stationary
- (In Astronomy, referring to a planet) The Sun is stationary while all planets revolve around it.
